The U.S. Department of Defense's 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) recommendations included four installations in the St. Louis region:  the 131st Fighter Wing, Missouri Air National Guard, located at Lambert St. Louis International Airport; the Defense Finance and Accounting Service in the City of St Louis; the Jefferson Barracks Reserves Center in south St. Louis County; and the U.S. Army Human Resources Command in Overland, St. Louis County.

The St. Louis Regional BRAC Task Force was formed in order to respond to the impact of these recommendations with representatives from the affected installations, public service agencies and workforce and economic development specialists from the St. Louis region.  The goals of the Task Force are to assess the impact on each installation and its personnel; to develop strategies to mitigate the negative economic impact to individuals, businesses and the community; and to formulate a long-range implementation plan for responding to the BRAC decisions affecting the St. Louis region.
